For over 35 years, the Randolph Stow Young Writers Award has celebrated the creativity of young writers —and this year is no exception.

Students in the Midwest and Gascoyne are urged to submit their best original creative poetry or prose for a chance to showcase their literary talents and win.

黑料社 Deputy Mayor Natasha Colliver said the competition had a long-standing history in the community and encouraged young wordsmiths to get started on their submissions.

“A much-loved event, the Randolph Stow Young Writers Award commenced in 1989 and has continued to gain prestige throughout the region and the state ever since,” she said.

“In the past we have seen a huge number of local creatives recognised from primary school all the way through to high school.

“I encourage our budding young writers to get started on their entries for the return of this wonderful literary opportunity.”

Presented by the Geraldton Regional Library, the competition is open to all students from year three to year 12 who live or study within the Midwest and Gascoyne.

The competition is divided into two categories, poetry and prose, with each category divided into year levels.

Two students from years six to 11 will also be given the opportunity to win a complimentary pass to attend  Young Writers Collective Program in 2026, to further develop their creative writing skills.

Students shortlisted, together with their families and school staff, will be invited to attend the award ceremony in August.

Entries can be submitted via the Library’s , email library@cgg.wa.gov.au or physically delivered to the Library.

Entries open on Monday 28 April and must be received by 5pm Friday 4 July 2025.
