Submit your abstract

We invite graduate and undergraduate students affiliated with CINE and ºÚÁÏÉç to present their research at the first annual CINE Student Symposium, taking place on November 20, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 PM, atÌýthe faculty Lounge (MS2-022), Macdonald Campus.

  • The first step toward participating in the CINE Student Symposium is to submit a poster or presentation abstract. Please by November 7, 2025, at 11:59 PM deadline
  • All presenters must also register for the CINE Student Symposium. Registration opens Monday, November 3
  • Both in-person and limited online presentation slots are available.

Who can apply

  • Graduate and undergraduate students currently affiliated with CINE.
  • We also welcome applications from ºÚÁÏÉç students conducting research in collaboration with Indigenous communities on nutrition and the environment
  • We welcome a broad range of research topics, including but not limited to:
    • Indigenous Peoples’ Food Systems
    • Food sovereignty and food security
    • Indigenous methodologies and participatory research
    • Environmental sustainability

Format and guidelines

You may choose one of these two formats to present

Panel Presentation

A 3-minute oral presentation followed by a Q&A session

  • Structure: 1-3 slides
  • Content:
    • Introduction: capture the audience's attention. Start with a hook.
    • Body: provide context/ background of your research, articulate the significance of your research, and use examples that the audience will relate to. Highlight how your research supports Indigenous Peoples' Food Systems, public health, or how it uses participatory research methods or Indigenous methodologies.
    • Conclusion: highlight the main takeaway of your research, and its significance.

Poster presentation

  • Structure: poster size 24 X 36 inches, font size: ensure fonts are large and clear. Minimum recommended font size 28 pt
  • Printing your poster: funding is available to support poster printing. More details will be shared soon

Awards

Four student presenters will be selected to receive a $100 CAD gift card to local Montreal public markets (Jean Talon, Atwater, etc.) or Bulk Barn.
