To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Génome Québec and to promote excellence in underrepresented research areas, D2R launched in September 2025Ìýa special awardÌý´Ç´ÚÌý$25,000Ìýto both recognize excellence inÌýGenomic Medicine and Indigenous HealthÌýand to support ongoing research.

This award acknowledges the impact of outstanding research by either established investigators or new principal investigators who have recently contributed to this field. Researchers from all areas of study relevant to the D2R Initiative and Indigenous Health were eligible for this award. This included, but was not limited to, basic biomedical research, clinical research, the social sciences, and social determinants of health.Ìý

Applications were reviewed by a committee consisting of experts in both Genomic Medicine and Indigenous Health, and includes members of Quebec’s Indigenous communities and the awardee was announced alongside Génome Québec’s Emerging Talent Award recipients at theÌý2025 Rendez-Vous Génome QuébecÌýonÌýOctober 23, 2025, in Montréal.

From Guidelines to Practice – assessing the translation of the Cultural Safety Roundtable guidelines in research practices in Quebec

Cultural Safety is a transformative Indigenous-led concept that addresses systemic inequities and colonial legacies in health research. In Quebec, the Tahatikonhsontóntie’ Network (QcNEIHR), in partnership with key Indigenous and academic organizations, convened the Cultural Safety Roundtable to define culturally safe research practices. This proposal studies the effectiveness of the collaboratively developed Cultural Safety Report, examining its dissemination, influence on individual practices, and structural changes in Indigenous health research. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study will assess reach, individual change in practices, and institutional uptake, contributing to a deeper understanding of how culturally safe research environments can be fostered and sustained.
